This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use our website, mobile applications, and services.

1. Introduction

Know Connections ("we", "our", "us") built the Know Connections app as a digital business card and professional networking platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and your rights over it.

By using the app, you agree to this policy.

2. Information We Collect and Why

2.1 Account & Profile Information

What: Name, email address, phone number, company name, industry type, profile photo, job role, business card details, referral code.
Why: To create and manage your account, display your digital business card, and connect you with other professionals on the platform.
Stored: On our secure servers.

2.2 Phone & Call State Information

What: Incoming call phone numbers (not stored — processed in real time only), your device's phone state (ringing, idle, off-hook).
Why: To power the Caller ID feature. When your phone rings, we use the incoming number to look up whether the caller is in the KnowConnections network and display their professional information (name, company, role, notes) on your screen before you answer.
Important: We do not store your call history. We do not record, log, or transmit call logs to our servers. The phone number is used only for a single real-time API lookup and is discarded immediately after.
Permissions used:

• READ_PHONE_STATE — Detects when a call is incoming/ended.
• READ_CALL_LOG — Required by Android 9+ to access the incoming caller's number during a phone state broadcast. This is the only purpose for which this permission is used.
• CALL_PHONE — Allows you to initiate calls directly from contact profiles within the app.

2.3 Contacts

What: Your device contacts (names, phone numbers, email addresses).
Why: To help you find existing connections, save professional contacts from the network to your phone, and sync business card information.
Permissions used:

• READ_CONTACTS — To search and display your existing contacts.
• WRITE_CONTACTS — To save KnowConnections network contacts to your phone.

2.4 Location

What: Approximate and precise device location.
Why: To provide location-based networking features such as nearby professional discovery and location tagging in meeting notes.
Permissions used:

• ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
• ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION

We do not track your location in the background. Location is accessed only while you are actively using the relevant feature in the app.

2.5 Camera and Photos

What: Camera feed (for QR scanning), images selected from your photo library or taken with the camera.
Why: To scan QR codes on digital business cards, upload profile photos, and upload company/card images.
Permissions used:

• CAMERA
• READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / READ_MEDIA_IMAGES
• WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE

2.6 Notifications and Reminders

What: Device push notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging token).
Why: To send meeting reminders, follow-up alerts, connection requests, and other in-app activity notifications.
Permissions used:

• POST_NOTIFICATIONS
• SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM / SET_ALARM
• VIBRATE
• RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — To re-register alarms and restore the Caller ID feature after device reboot.
• WAKE_LOCK — To ensure time-critical notifications are delivered without being delayed by battery optimization.
• USE_FULL_SCREEN_INTENT — To display meeting/call alerts in full-screen mode on locked devices.

2.7 Home Screen Widget

What: No additional data. Displays data already present in your account.
Why: To show quick-access business card information on your device home screen.

2.8 Overlay (Display Over Other Apps)

What: No data is collected through this permission.
Why: Required to display the Caller ID popup window over the incoming call screen and over other apps, even when Know Connections is closed.
Permission used: SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW

2.9 Usage and Analytics

What: App usage patterns, feature interactions, error logs.
Why: To improve app performance and fix bugs. We do not sell or share analytics data with third-party advertisers.

2.10 Payment Information

What: We do not store payment card details. Payments are processed entirely by Razorpay and Google Play Billing. We only receive a transaction result (success/failure) and a transaction ID.

• Your account data is stored on our servers hosted in India.
• Data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption).
• We implement industry-standard security practices including access controls and encrypted storage.
• We retain your data for as long as your account is active. On account deletion, your personal data is permanently removed within 30 days.

7. Children's Privacy

Know Connections is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us immediately at contact@knowconnections.in.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data via your profile settings.
• Delete your account and all associated data from the Settings page.
• Withdraw consent for optional features (location, notifications) by revoking permissions in your device settings at any time.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. We will notify you of material changes via an in-app notification or email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
